Description:

The Indian sheath-tailed bat, Taphozous longimanus Hardwicke 1823 (Familly Emballonuridae) exhibits a clearly defined breeding season at Varanasi (25°N), India. The female breeds twice during the year in quick succession. The first pregnancy commences in mid-January and terminates in late April to mid-May. Within a short period after parturition the female copulates and experiences the second pregnancy which terminates in August.
