It was first isolated from the bark of the Pacific yew(Taxus brevifolia). Paclitaxel belongs to a group of secondary metabolites collectively indicated with the name taxanes. Paclitaxel is found in most yews, but thecontent is very (0-0,05%) variable. Because of the scarcity of the slow growingtrees and the relative low content of paclitaxel, alternative sources are neededto meet the increasing demand.
