 abstract={The article presents the results of linguistic analysis of the local name Sieczcza. In the Middle Ages, it was used to describe a village in whose lands the town of Parysów (southern Mazovia) was later established, in the second quarter of the sixteenth century. The legitimacy of interpretations functioning so far in the scientific discourse, which were based on philological and grammatical analyses, and stated that this toponym had a possessive origin, was questioned. In the paper, the cultural genesis of the toponym was argued, showing semantic connections with Polish place names such as Osiek, Osieck and Ukrainian Sicz — all derived from the pan-Slavic verb siec, siekać ‘to cut, to chop’.},
