The first part identifies its location and describes its appearance, discusses its staff structure, and outlines the costs of day-to-day operations. Drawing on entries from the king’s private notebook, the next section reconstructs the network of service providers and suppliers to the Wardrobe, indicating the types of goods they delivered and their total value. The following part characterizes Stanisław August’s activities as a consumer: it describes the nature of his purchases, the way in which the Wardrobe’s budget was constructed, and the difficulties associated with it—including the use of credit. These findings are compared with what is known about the monarch’s attitude toward clothing and fashion, as well as with the common scholarly belief that the king fell into debt due to his passion for “glittering trinkets.”}, title={Pończochy i polityka.
