 abstract={This article aims to present and summarise the political career of Valdas Adamkus as President of Lithuania in 1998–2003 and 2004–2009. The genesis and background of the decision to run in the next elections, the role of President Adamkus in Lithuanian political life and his international activity are characterised. The article also presents an outline of Valdas Adamkus’s earlier biography: his youth and half a century of emigration in the USA, preceding his return to his homeland.},
