The events were preceded by thedisplacement of the Polish local population from the central part of the town to the other sideof the Kaczawa (German: Katzbach) River, which was to facilitate the Soviet military commandto “adapt” the town to the needs of the Red Army. A decision about the resettlement was takenunexpectedly, and its course was chaotic and harsh.
