The numbers of Clostridium were determined by the method consisting of dilutions in an agar culture-medium with saccharose and soil extract. The results obtained (Tab. I, II and III) lead to the following conclusions:1. The number of Clostridium in the soils examined fluctuates within wide limits, from a few cells only to one million per gramme of fresh soil.2. The following factors affect the numbers of these bacteria: type of soil organie mass contents, pH, type of vegetation mantle and the season of the year. No distinct dependence on the amount of water in soils was found.3. Light soils, in particular loose sands on which forest-type vegetation grows contained the smallest amount of Clostridium. Wet and heavy soils - alluvial and loess, covered by vegetation belonging to the following associations: Circaeo Alnetum, Alnetum incanae, Fagetum carpaticum and Querceto-Carpinetum contained the largest numbers of these bacteria.}, type={Text}, title={Badania nad występowaniem Clostridium w glebach leśnych}, URL={http://rcin.org.pl/Content/120531/PDF/WA058_98151_P3259-6_Eko-Pol-B.pdf}, volume={6}, number={4}, journal={Ekologia Polska.
