 abstract={The article presents the genesis, structure and activity of informal groups and social movements in the last years of the USSR. The specifics of the functioning of the Informals (Russian: nеформалы, a term created in connotation to the formal structures of social consolidation) in social life outside the public space since the 1950s, when it concerned mainly the sphere of culture and science, were outlined. The issues of legalisation, activation and total politicisation of this movement from the mid-1980s, during the so-called perestroika. The Informals then emerged as active participants in political life in the state, representing a broad worldview spectrum of Soviet society.},
