Autopsy examination of 52-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with H-E and Heidenhein method.All specimens from the core revealed extensive inflammatory and degenerative changes. Severity of necrotic lesions in both gray and white structures of the core varied at different levels /neck, thoracic, lumbar/. Necrosis paced directly posterior to the central canal, destroyed the ascending tracts of the posterior cord. The necrosis was in the phase of leucocytic infarction, besides it is partially hemorrhagic. The gray structure was loosened, especially in the anterolateral parts of the anterior horn. The preserved cells showed features of chronic disease. Another section showed necrosis in the dissection phase, destroying both gray and white structures, mainly involving one half of the core. The vessels in the necrotic foci were maximally filled with blood and dilated. Large vascular infiltrates of lymphocytic and single plasmocytic cells were present. In the second half of the core, the tissue structure was loosened, disintegrating. On the next two sections, a significantly smaller inflammatory and hemorrhagic reaction was observed, but in many places nerve cells were absent. In the subdural medulla, only in the nucleus of Gall and Burdoch a glial scar was seen, beside that atrophy of nerve cells and vascular infiltration were seen. In the meninges of the medulla, lymphocytes and histocyte-like cells were mainly present perivascular. In the optic nerve and band, only single myelin sheaths in the peripheral parts were damaged. It is suggested to obtain additional specimen from the visual pathway.}, title={File of histopathological evaluation of nervous system diseases (1966) - nr 62/66}, type={Text}, URL={http://rcin.org.pl/Content/193341/PDF/62_66.pdf}, keywords={Vascular disaeses - encephalomacia, Myelomalacia haemorrhagica}, }
