Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and cresyl-violet. Myelin at all levels was generally preserved, only a bit faded perivascularly and along the ventricular system. The ventricular system was very wide and distended; in accordance with this, the white matter was rather narrow and atrophic. Several rather large lacunae were visible within the putamen, one with very numerous hemosiderin-laden macrophages. Spongy thinnings were found along the entire medullary lamina of Ammon's horn. Prominent cell loss was observed in the cortex of all levels. Large atrophy is also found in the basal ganglia, including the thalamus. The pons and bulb nuclei were preserved. The cerebellum showed no major changes. The medium caliber and small vessels had quite thick and vitreous walls. The picture requires differentiation with encephalopathia arteriosclerotica. The severity of the vascular changes, in the final assessment, was mediocre. Very large hydrocephalus and cellular defects disproportionate to the vascular status suggests rather post-traumatic origin, at least in part of the defects.}, title={File of histopathological evaluation of nervous system diseases (1964) - nr 59/64}, type={Text}, URL={http://rcin.org.pl/Content/206047/PDF/59_64.pdf}, keywords={Encephalopathies and Myelopathies}, }
