Tadeusza Manteuffla Polskiej Akademii Nauk}, language={pol}, abstract={The cause of the death of Queen Barbara Radziwiłł, the wife of King Sigismund II Augustus, has been analysed by many researchers, especially in the 20th century. Among the possible causes considered were poisoning, complications of venereal disease – syphilis, and a cancerous disease of the female genital organs (“woman’s disease”). This study aims to determine the cause of Barbara Radziwiłł’s death (1520–1551) from a medical perspective, based on available written sources, such as the letters of King Sigismund II Augustus, medical prescriptions of Queen Barbara’s doctor, academic articles, including polemics of doctors, and the results of the examination of the queen’s remains. After an analysis of the above sources, based on the current medical knowledge, it has been decided that the most probable cause of Queen Barbara’s was an advanced neoplastic disease of the reproductive organs (most likely cervical cancer) with its consequences. The queen’s death was therefore of idiopathic, disease-related nature.}, title={Tajemnica śmierci Barbary Radziwiłłówny : aspekty medyczne}, type={Text}, URL={http://rcin.org.pl/Content/233474/PDF/WA303_270425_e-book_Skowronek-Palasz.pdf}, keywords={medicine - history - Poland, Barbara Radziwiłłówna, Consort of Sigismund II Augustus, King of Poland, 1520-1551, cause of death, forensic medicine, cancer, cervical cancer}, }
