The brownish-red opaque threads applied below the rim and on the body, as well as painted, unfortunately very fragmentarily preserved Greek inscription, make this vessel unique. Most probably it was made in one of the glass workshops operating in the Eastern Mediterranean. Alexandria seems to be to most obvious candidate. The vessel can be dated to the 6th c.
