The author uses ethnographic methods to explore and expound the effects of restructuring and transformations of the economic system. The study shows the history of the settlement and the collapse of the “Bobrek” Ironworks, which used to be the main workplace for the district’s residents. The article focuses on the deep crisis of the local community, the long-term unemployment and social exclusion which appeared in the area after the ironworks closed in 1994. The author points out the psychological and emotional aspects of a great change and the problem of ghettoisation in a district noted for poverty and unemployment. Nonetheless, in the author’s opinion, remains of the traditional Silesian working-class culture can still be found there}, type={Text}, title={„Witamy na Bobrku!”, czyli zmiana i trwanie bytomskiej kolonii robotniczej : po okresie transformacji ustrojowo-ekonomicznej}, URL={http://rcin.org.pl/Content/60567/PDF/WA308_78947_P714_Witamy-na-Bobrku_I.pdf}, keywords={Bytom, Silesia, Restructuring, working class district, unemployment, social exclusion}, }
