The soldiers of Gen. Anders’ Army were accompanied by almost forty thousand civilians. According to the accepted terms, they were to be further evacuated by the British forces as soon as possible, but the situation in the war fronts and logistic problems hampered a swift implementation of these plans. For many Iran became shelter and home for several years.
