TY - GEN A2 - E.Osetowska, dr hab. N1 - Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis N2 - Autopsy examination of 11-month-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and Heidenhain method. The anatomical structures were formed normally. There was a mild diffuse brightening of the myelin throughout the white matter. The cortical cells showed slight perivascular thinning; no defects or diseased cells were observed in the basal ganglia or in the brainstem. Edematous dilated spaces were seen around the vessels, especially severely at the small vessels of the basal ganglia. In the area, prefrontal severe venous stasis was observed. In the cerebellum, except for a persistent foveal granular layer, the structure was normal. Demarcating edema was found in the Purkinje cell layer with Bergman glial reaction.Histological diagnosis: Oedema et stasis cerebri.
