TY - GEN N1 - 24 cm N2 - The paper deals with sport (with the focus on winter sports) as a factor contributing to urban way of life and strengthening urban identity. It presents the case study of the city of Banská Bystrica, which has been building its marketing and identity primarily through sport and high participation of local inhabitants in mass sport activities, predominantly winter sports. The aim of the paper is to demonstrate the role that sports played in urban identity formation in the period from the establishment of the first Czechoslovak Republic (1918) to the present day.
