Description:

Electron microscopy analysis of the heart biopsy

Subject and Keywords:

Heart failure

Abstract:

Ultrastructural analysis revealed abnormalities in the morphological structure of thecardiomyocytes. In many cardiomyocytes changes in the structure of the sarcomeres wereobserved. The course of myofibrils was irregular. The cytoplasm of cardiomyocytes was filledwith numerous mitochondria and vacuolar structures. Except mitochondria, numerousfat droplets were present in the cytoplasm of cardiomyocytes. In most cells, frequently clusters of membrane-surrounded glycogen granules were seen.Within glycogen clusters, autophagous vacuoles were often observed.Cardiomyocytes nuclei were irregularly shaped.
