Abstract:

The paper contains a discussion of the general relations between the resources and fertility of a habitat and selected parameters of production of ground vegetation in several forest assiociations. It was found that as the resources of the soil increase the number of species density of individuals and amount of production also increase. Ground vegetation production is judged chieflly by dominants, which form only 9-22% of the number of species. The production of several dominating species forms as much as 60-86% of the whole production of the herbal layer. It was also found that herbal layer production in oligotrophic associations for instance in stands of Cladonio-Pinetum and Vaccinio myrtilli-Pinetum is divided between 2-3 dominating species, while in eurtrophic associations in forests of the Carpinion betuli alliance and Alno-Padion alliance on a larger number (8-9 species). In coniferous forests retention of biomass is very many times greater than in deciduous forest associations. In the latter the decomposition of organic mass and its circulation is very rapid, which together with the resources of habitats is a condition of greater production and more luxuriant development of vegetation.
