Experiments were carried out on 35 dogs. Marked cholestasis and dilation of extra- and intrahepatic biliary tracts followed the induced constriction. The changes developed after lapse of some 8—10 days. Microscopical specimens showed the images of cholestasis and fine-celled infiltrations within periportal spaces, at which these changes were visible since the 10th day. In the later period, after lapse of 50—60 days hyperplasia of connective tissue and of biliary tubules appeared. This process reached its maximum between 130th and 150th day of the experiment. In one case typical biliary liver cirrhosis was found after lapse of 156 days. Marked increase of the blood serum bilirubinę, basic phosphatase and pyruvic transaminase level followed already in the first week after constriction. Intensification of biochemical and anatomopathological changes did not depend upon the degree of constriction of the common bile duct and was the same as well at l°/o as w’ell at 99°/o of the lumen constriction. Only the survival time of animals was the longer the minor was the constriction.
