Abstract:

Behavior of blood sugar curve vzas studied in patients suffering from atherosclerotic obliteration of extremital arteries. Examinations were carried out after loading of glucose alone and loading of glucose together with cortisone. Hundred patients showing fasting blood sugar level under 120 mg percent were subjected to these studies, with purpose to detect in them the presence of latent diabetes. In eleven patients the blood sugar curve presented the diabetic character after loading of glucose alone. Nine patients subjected to loading of glucose alone did not develop a diabetic blood sugar curve, until they have been administered loading of glucose together with cortisone. Latent diabetes was thus revealed in twenty patients. Detection of diabetes in subjects suffering from atherosclerotic obliteration of extremital arteries influences the kind of planned surgical procedure and the postoperative course.
