Abstract:

Five patients with hepatic comacomplicating acute viral hepatitis have been treated in our department with extracorporeal porcine liver perfusion. Two of tchem regained consciousness soon after the second perfusion, recovered within several weeks, and were discharged from the hospital. Three others died with symproms of progressive liver insufficiency. In the following report the clinical, biochemical, and hematological data obtained in 10perfusions are summarized
