Description:

The photo shows a woman and a man (married couple) with their three daughters. The photo was taken in a professional photo studio in Elsterwerde, Germany, where the family stayed during the war as forced workers. It shows owner’s of the photo grandparents together with her mother and her mother’s sisters. On the back of the photo is a short description: “The family: one man, blue eyes, dark blond hair, yes. The maid blue eyes, dark blond hair scout-like, 3 maids blue eyes dark blond hair (some errors in Polish original). Elsterwerda on 13th November 1943” ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
