Description:

Muscle segment examination in light & electon microscopy

Abstract:

An 54-year-old patient with suspected myoglobinuria was examined. A biopsy of quadriceps sinister was performed. Light microscopy analysis didn’t revealed any histopathological changes. In order to explain elevated CK level electronmicroscopy analysis was performed. Ultrastructurally altered mitochondria were observed. They were characterised by total or partial lack of mitochondrial cristae. Lysosomes were present in the peripheral part of myocytes. A defect of mitochondrial enzymes was suspected. Biochemical examination of carnitine palmitoyltransferase was performed and the result was 2,11 nM/mgB/min
