Muscle segment examination in light & electron microscopy

Abstract:

A 59-year-old patient with suspected primary muscular injury - inflammatory or metabolic wasexamined. A biopsy of quadriceps sinister was performed.Electronmicroscopy analysis did not reveal significant changes in myofibers ultrastructure andnormal nuclei laying under sarcolemma were observed. Some mitochondria were partially devoid ofmitochondrial cristae. Few droplets of fat and lipofuscin were observed, but it was in accordance toage.Biochemical examination of carnitine palmitoyltransferase level in the muscle tissue was performedand the result was 3,32 nM/mgB/min. (Norm 6,5-18 nM/mgB/min.)
