Muscle segment examination in light & electron microscopy

Abstract:

A 67-year-old patient with muscular pains of the shoulder and hip girdle was examined. A biopsy ofquadriceps was performed. Muscle fibers with unchanged ultrastructure, but lymphocyte infiltration(so-called lymphocyte "ring") was observed on their surface. Perivascular lymphocyteswere seen. Lymphocytes adjacent to the myofibers and penetrating inside them wereobserved. Fibers were severely damaged.
