Muscle segment examination in light & electron microscopy

Abstract:

A 59-year-old patient with suspected myopathy was examined. Electronmicroscopy analysis revealed normal myofibril structure. Mitochondria were characterized by preserved mitochondrial membrane but blurred structure of mitochondrial cristae. We observed the presence of lipid droplets within the muscle fibers (Fig. 1,2,3,4,5). Altered mitochondria characterized by light mitochondrial matrix and devoid of cristae were seen in some myofibers (Fig.6,7,8,9).
