Description:

The picture shows young women assembled around a table with flowers on it. The table is placed under trees near a wall of concrete, against a background of buildings. According to the owner of the photo the picture shows her mother Emiila [Emily] (…). The picture was taken by an amateur photographer (…) It shows a wedding episode as the young people set a table outside of the house to greet the bride and the bridegroom and to accompany them on the way to the church 3 kilometers away; August 1946; Wawrzęcie Village near Cracow ; The photo sent to the contest “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly „Nowa Wieś” (New village). The copy of the photo in the possession of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute of the History of Material Culture)
