Description:

The photo depicts an elderly man, a woman and a girl standing in front of a farm building with a wooden double door. The woman in a flower-patterned dress with a sieve in her hand is feeding hens and the man wearing a cap is holding some tools in his hands, including a hammer. In the middle there is a girl in a light-coloured dress. There are metal parts of agricultural tools propped against the wall of the building. At the back of the photo there is an inscription saying: “The photo taken in summer 1942 in front of Józef’s (…) village smithy. Standing in the middle is his small granddaughter, currently holding an MA degree in maths from SGPiS [Main School of Planning and Statistics - currently Warsaw School of Economics] in Warsaw. Photo taken by an amateur photographer [name unknown] in the village and commune of Grzymkowice, Skierniewice district” ; Summer of 1942, Grzymkowice, Łódź voivodeship ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
