Description:

The photo is of very poor quality and overexposed. It depicts a gathering of many people in front of the monastery in Jasna Góra in Czestochowa. At the back of the photo there is an inscription saying: “A keepsake photo of family (…) by the Jasna Góra fortress, 1937 – 26 August”. In the middle there is a decorative stamp of a photographic studio:“A keepsake from Częstochowa” : photos are taken vis a vis of the top. Chrześcijański Zakład Fotograficzny [Tthe Christian Photographic Studio] of M. Skemski in Częstochowa, Park Staszica…], and another, smaller one, in the right upper corner ; 26 August 1938, Jasna Góra monastery, Częstochowa ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
