Description:

The photo depicts a horse parade and people who are watching it while standing next to some buildings. Men riding the horses are festively dressed, wearing caps and sashes. According to the photo owner’s account, it depicts the welcoming ceremony for a bishop visiting Brzeziny parish. Taking part in the parade are workers from Przystajnia, who attended church in the village, with horses from the manor. At the back of the photo there is the following inscription: “A memento of the Bishop, dated 3rd of May 1933 in Brzeziny” ; May, the 3rd 1933, Brzeziny near Kalisz ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
