Description:

The photo taken in a photographic studio depicts six men in elegant suits. According to the photo owner’s account, it was taken in a photographic studio in Bruay (Pas-de-Calais) in France and depicts workers from the Haillicourt II mine, including himself and his brother. As he recalls, he left for France 14 days after his wedding which took place on 26 November 1930. Beneath the photo there is the following inscription: “A memento from [our] stay in France, year 1931” ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
