A postcard photo depicting factory buildings behind a fence. There are a main gate, a production plant in the distance and a mining shaft. The inscription underneath the photo says: “Castrop-Rauxel 4. Zeche Jekern 1 n.2”. The photo depicts a factory in the town of Castrop-Rauxel in Germany in which, according to the photo owner’s account, his mother’s brother Władysław (…) used to work. At the back of the photo there is the following text [with some spelling mistakes]: “Dear Sister, I’d like to inform you that I am also not very well. I’ve had a pain in my leg for 4 weeks now; there is so much pain in my [illegible] that I can’t even put my shoe on but [...] it is better now and it is healing [illegible]; I am tired of […] but what can man do; all the same by me; So long, regards to the entire family and a heartily Goodbye. Regards W. (…)”. In the space dedicated to the addressee’s data written: “Hn. Herrn Franz (...) Gut. Przystajnia Post. Waldwasser kr. Kalisch” ; 1916 year, Castrop-Rauxel, Germany ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village).
