[A conspiracy meeting of young members of the underground in Puszcza Jodłowa forest] [An iconographic document]

Date issued/created:

[1941]

Description:

The photo depicts a group of young people: six women in light-coloured dresses and three men. Two of them are standing while the rest of the group is sitting on rocks on a mountain slope. A man standing on the right is dressed in a long coat (a cape) and is holding large sheets of paper in his hands. There is a forest in the distance. According to the photo’s owner, it depicts a conspiracy meeting of the underground youth from the village of Wzdół Rządowy (Bodzentyn commune, Kielce district, Świętokrzyskie voivodeship) with Józef Ozga Michalski in Puszcza Jodłowa forest. In the picture, standing on the right dressed in a coat is Ozga Michalski, on the left – the photo’s owner. According to the photo owner’s account, the photo captured the moment of reading out a passage from Ozga’s long stage play that had been divided in parts for individual people. The photo was taken with the photo owner’s camera by an acquaintance. There is an inscription at the back saying: “15/VIII-41. On top of Łysica Mountain. A meeting with Ozga Michalski” ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
