The photo depicts a man in shabby clothes, with a pipe in his mouth, holding a glass and pouring himself a drink from a bottle with his other hand. The man is wearing worn trousers, a jacket and a waistcoat, he has a scarf / gavroche around his neck, and a cap (a type of a flat cap). The photo was taken in 1915 and according to its owner depicts Jakub (…) – a resident of the village of Kokoszyce, Pszów commune, Rybnik district, Katowice voivodeship. This is the village storyteller, humorist, jester (…) who lived in Kokoszyce and rambled round neighbouring villages, such as Pszów, Krzyżkowice, Zawada, Syrynia, Lubomia, Rogowy, Czyżowice, Jodłownik, Radlin, Wodzisław Śląski. He was a favourite figure of these villages’ residents. He was commonly known as “Jakub Pif-Paf”. He lived between 1865 and 1920 and came from a peasant family. He did not work anywhere – he subsisted on his quick wits and charity. Jakub from Kokoszyce is still the talk of the entire neighbourhood. There are many interesting and amusing stories about him ; 1915, Kokoszyce ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village).
