Description:

Muscle segment examination in light & electon microscopy

Subject and Keywords:

Myopathy

Abstract:

A quadriceps sinister biopsy from 3-year-old patinet with suspected myopathy was taken and examined. Electronmicroscopy analysis revealed a few fibers of normal diameter and numerous myotube-like fibers. Myotube-like fibers were much smaller than normal and possessed centrally located, large, singular, composed mainly of eurochromatin nuclei. No significant deficiencies in the myofibrils structure were observed. In some of the fibers significantly damaged, swollen mitochondria, characterized by a loss of mitochondrial cristae were seen. The fibers of the intramuscular nerve show the presence of multiaxonal fibers. Fibers characterized by myelin splitting and incomplete myelination were observed. Conclusions: microscopic image may indicate a defect in the maturation process of the muscular system.
