Description:

The photo depicts a man dressed as a vagabond – in a hat with a feather, torn jacket and trousers, with a sack across his back and a stick in his hand – walking across a snow-covered field. There are farm buildings in the distance. Underneath the photo there is the following inscription: “2. II.1942. A vagabond [spelled with an error]. According to the photo’s owner: “even during the occupation people from the village have not lost hope and good humour.” The photo depicts a brother of the photo owner’s father ; 2 February 1942, Piaseczno, voiv. Gdańskie ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
