Description:

Electron microscopy analysis of the heart biopsy

Subject and Keywords:

Myocarditis

Abstract:

Electronmicroscopy evaluation revealed focal changes in the course of myofilaments and their disorganization. In some cardiomyocytes ultrastructurally disorganized sarcomeres and scattered myofilaments were present in the vicinity of altered cell nuclei. Often in such an area of myofilament lysis an aggregation of mitochondria characterized by a light electron matrix was observed. Most of cardiomiocytes nuclei were characterized by discontinuity of the nuclear membrane and bright chromatin. Insarcoplasm, and in the vicinity of ultrastructurally altered nuclei numerous autophagal structures were seen. In the extracellular space capillary vesselsforming loops were observed. Vascular endothelial cells were characterized by a bright cytoplasm.
