Description:

The photo depicts a crowd gathered in a large square. There are village buildings visible in the distance. The photo was taken from a significant height and distance – silhouettes of people are barely distinguishable – and the photo is of a poor quality. According to its owner, the photo depicts a commune’s feast of military training and physical education in Irządze. There is an inscription at the back of the photo: “During the commune’s feast of military training and physical education in Irządze on 12.V.1935” ; 12th May 1935, Irządze, district Zawiercie, voiv. Śląskie ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
