Abstract:

The aim of the article is to reflect on the development of research within broadly understood culturallinguistics in Germanic studies. The collected corpus of texts of key importance for the development ofcultural linguistics in Germanic studies shows how language and culture are defined in the context of theirmutual relations. The article also discusses the terms used in the literature by linguists to define and describetheir research, in order to use the examples from these two fields to illustrate the aims of anthropologicallinguistics (anthropologische Linguistik) and cultural linguistics (kulturanalytische Linguistik) and themethods used to analyse the linguistic material. The article ends with a summary of developmental trendsin the discussed linguistic sub-discipline and with an interlinguistic commentary.
