Abstract:

Genetic variability of plants regenerated from tissue culture was called somaclonal variation by Larkinand Scowcroft (2). This variation has occurred very commonly in different types of cultures and speciesand the frequency of mutations could reach several percent of a locus. This article concerns information about characterization, genetic basis and factors which generate somaclonal variation. It also shows that some of genetic phenomena occured only as a consequence of tissue culture. The knowledge about somaclonal variation is presented in terms of its implications for breeding
