Abstract:

Revolutionary new methods for changing the genotypes of microorganisms and animals have been developed over the last few years.A single gene can be isolated, altered in the laboratory and introduced into individuals, of the same or a different species and became incorporated into the genome. Animals which have received new gene in this way are called "transgenic". This new method opened fully new opportunity to produce animals with entirely novel properties, unattainable by conventional selection methods. Transgenic methodology may be applied to the production of transgenic farm animals. In not very distant future, new methods to modify the genome of animals by using gene constructs will be developed.
