Autor przeprowadził wszechstronną analizę kraniometryczną 636 czaszek Sorex araneus araneus L. pochodzących z północnych Niemiec. W wyniku tego stwierdza, co nastepuje: 1. Wymiary czaszki ryjówek z półn. Niemiec są mniejsze niż w populacji bytującej na terenie Puszczy Białowieskiej. Długość Cb. waha sie w granicach 17,3-19,4 mm (Tabela Nr 1). 2. 4 czaszki o dł. Cb. poniżej 17,8 mm autor uważa za skarlałe okazy gatunku Sorex araneus araneus L. Stwierdzenie to jest oparte na szczegółowym omówieniu różnic miedzy czaszkami Sorex araneus L. i Sorex caecutiens Laxmann (Tabela Nr 2). 3. Młode ryjówki po opuszczeniu gniazda są w pełni wyrośnięte, podstawowym kryterium jest tu długość Cb.
