Abstract:

Histological diagnosis: Encephalomalacia recens hemisphaeri sinistri in regione partis lateralis nucleorum basalium. Arteriosclerosis universalis gradu mediocri . Autopsy examination of 60-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with H-E, Orange G and PAS method.A fresh focus of encephalomalacia was found in the left hemisphere. The tissue in the malacic focus, of poorer staining and obliterated anatomical structures, was markedly loosened, spongy in places, and disintegrated in others. In the cortex, significant cellular depletion and chronic ischemic type lesions were observed. All vessels presented with vitreous-fibrous changes and were filled maximally with blood. Symptomatic reaction was present near some vessels. The meninges were slightly fibrotic. In in the vicinity of the vessels there were single macrophages and lymphocytes.
