The Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences ( SRI PAS) is famed for having been a long way in advance of the prospective research in Control and Computer Sciences in Europe. This paper is related partly to Professor Kazimierz Mańczak's achievements and partly to the role of SRI PAS. Prof Mańczak 's research started in 1955 within the Just established Automatic Control Laboratory of the PAS. It was established mainly for the future-oriented research, reaching a few decades ahead. Thus, for instance, the neural electronic network or the on-line electronic optimizers for engines were, studies in this Laboratory in the 1950. The vision of this research unit and of the other ones having formed the SRI PAS was close to Norbert Wiener's and Alan Turing's vision of Knowledge Society, based on Information, Control, Computer and Intelligence Sciences. Poland needs the transition towards the Knowledge Society with reengineering of the entire educational system.
