Zmienność indywidualna w zakresie jednej populacji wilka jest duża. W odniesieniu do niektórych wymiarów zmienność dochodzi do 32,8% w stosunku do wielkości średnich. Stopień zmienności poszczególnych wymiarów jest bardzo różny. Na przykład, długość kła szczęki górnej wykazuje przeszło trzykrotnie większą zmienność w porównaniu z Cb. Największą zmienność wykazują: okolica międzyoczodołowa czaszki, siekacze i górny kieł. Najmniejszą zmienność zaobserwowano w podstawowych wymiarach długości czaszki i żuchwy.
