Abstract:

Histological diagnosis: Glioblastoma multiforme.Autopsy examination of 67-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson and brain frozen sections stained with Bielschowsky method.Tumor tissue characterized by cellular and structural polymorphism was found in the right hemisphere specimens. The tissue grew by infiltrating, occupying mainly the white matter of the parietal lobe, passing partially to the cortex and basal ganglia. The tumor showed great necrotic tendencies, creating large cavities in areas of disintegrated tissue. The tumor was richly and diffusely cellular. Abnormal mitoses were very numerous. The stroma of the tumor often contained vessels with hypertrophied walls and small-round cell infiltrates in Virchow-Robin spaces. The glia as a whole was highly stimulated, with an increased amount near the focus. Besides, edema with loosen cellular structure was observed.
