Badania nad preferendum termicznym w okresie rozwoju postnatalnego u nornika zwyczajnego wykazały, że w 10-12 dniu życia wybierana jest najwyższa temperatura (37˚). Od 13 dnia następuje obniżenie preferowanej temperatury i w końcu pierwszego miesiąca życia wynosi ona 19,5˚. W tym przejściowym okresie nornik cechuje się wysoką wytrzymałością na zmiany temperatury. U zwierząt dojrzałych optimum temperaturowe zamyka się w granicach od 16 do 22˚C
