Abstract:

The aim of the study was to answer the question of how the political changes of 1956/1957 and 1970/1971 affected the correspondence which came from the citizens of the PRL to the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers’ Party and to the Polish Radio and Television. The correctness in times of crises was to write in letters on nationwide problems concerning the public interest. The feature of correspondents sent to central authorities during political crises was also very critical in political matters. The authors of the letters demanded settlement and punishment of persons occupying the highest positions. Many proposals were system-wide in nature, related to civil rights and freedoms, trade union activities, state-church relations, freedom to travel abroad.
