Sprawdzano, czy zachodzi rzeczywista korelacja pomiędzy liczbą odnowionych nor a liczebnością norników, która stanowi podstawowe założenie wzglednej metody oceny liczebności. W tym celu w ciągu 2 lat wykonano 6 jednomiesięcznych prób na dwóch jednohektarowych polach lucerny. Tę zasadniczą serię badań uzupełniono doświadczeniami, które pozwoliły zaobserwować szybką dynamikę odkopywania nor i rozbudowywania kolonii (Ryc. 1).
