[1939-1945]

Description:

The photo depicts a wooden hut with a porch. Under the miniature of the photo there is the inscription saying: "The elementary school in Turów during the occupation". According to the photo's owner, it depicts a one-classroom elementary school which his wife attended during the entire period of the occupation. It was a timber building clad with wooden boards. The entry to the building leads through the porch. The school consisted of a single room of approximately 20 m2; the second part of the building was occupied by a private apartment and a small shop. The building was a private property of shopkeeper (...). The classroom was heated with an iron wood-burning stove; the firewood was chopped and provided to the school by him personally. As a result of the insufficient heating and draughty windows the ink in ink-wells tended to freeze. Before the II WW the school occupied the same building ; 1939-1945 r., Turów, com.
